WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Spanish international Mapi Leon, who won 27 trophies, including four Champions League titles, in a nine-year career with Barcelona, will join former England goalkeeper Mary Earps as new signings at London City next season.

On the other side of the capital, Chelsea have signed Irish captain Katie McCabe, who turned down a new contract at Arsenal.

McCabe was a member of Arsenal’s 2025 Champions League winning team.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Wigan second row forward Sam Walters has been handed a seven-match ban after instigating a dangerous tackle on Hull KR’s Bill Leyland during the dying minutes of Saturday’s Challenge Cup final.

Walters was shown a red card for the offence while team-mate Junior Nsemba, who was involved in the tackle, escaped without punishment.

Wigan half-back Harry Smith also received a one-game ban for foul play.

MEN’S CRICKET: The West Indies begin their three match one-day series against Sri Lanka at Sabina Park, Jamaica, tomorrow afternoon.

Neither team have played any 50-over cricket since last November when the Sri Lankans crashed to a 3-0 defeat against Pakistan and the Windies slumped by the same score in New Zealand.

Sri Lanka are currently rated as the world’s sixth-best one-day team, four places above the West Indies.

SPEEDWAY: Redcar Bears are looking for their first Championship points of the season when they visit Cowley to take on the Oxford Cheetahs tomorrow evening.

The north-east club lost twice to table-toppers Poole Pirates in their opening matches before slipping up 42-48 at home to Scunthorpe last week, while teenager Mitchell McDiamid was top scoring with 11+2 points as Oxford held off the Edinburgh Monarchs 50-40.
