BOXING: Slough-born Adam Azim extended his unbeaten record to 15 bouts after retaining his WBO intercontinental light-welterweight title with an impressive third-round stoppage of Canada’s Steve Claggett at Wembley Arena on Saturday night. 

On the undercard Francesca Hennessy overcame a cut cheek to claim her ninth successive victory by stopping Italy’s Aurora Di Persio in the sixth round of their WBC silver bantamweight clash.

RUGBY LEAGUE: Wigan completed a Challenge Cup double at Wembley on Saturday with Eva Hunter running in four tries as their women retained the title in a 54-6 crushing of St Helens before the men’s team thumped Hull KR 40-10. 

Wigan half-back Jack Farrimond won the Lance Todd man of the match trophy as they picked up the cup for the third time in the last five years and extended their record to 22 final wins. 

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Victor Wembanyama netted 22 points and seven rebounds as San Antonio Spurs beat defending NBA champions Oklahoma City Thunder 111-103 this morning to win the Western Conference final 4-3. 

They will face New York Knicks in the grand final after they brushed off Cleveland 4-0 in the Eastern Conference decider. 

The Knicks last reached the NBA decider 27 years ago and have not won the Larry O’Brien Trophy since 1973.

WOMEN’S CYCLING: Dutch national champion Lorena Wiebes won Saturday’s first stage of the Giro d’Italia in Ravenna but wasdisqualified hours later after her bike was found to be 20 grams below the minimum weight. 

Italy’s Elisa Balsamo was promoted to first place with Ireland’s Lara Gillespie moving up to second. Britain’s Pfeiffer Georgi finished on the same time in 30th. Wiebes won the points classification at last year’s Giro and Tour de France.
