CHINA: Chinese President Xi Jinping will host Russian President Vladimir Putin on a two-day trip to Beijing from May 19-20, the Kremlin said on Saturday.

This comes less than 24 hours after United States President Donald Trump finished his state visit to China.

BOLIVIA: Around 3,500 Bolivian military and police clashed with protesters outside La Paz on Saturday, as authorities attempted to clear roadways that had been blocked as part of growing nationwide anti-government demonstrations.

Around 57 people were arrested during the crackdown on the protests organised by miners, schoolteachers, indigenous groups and trade unions to demand the resignation of right-wing President Rodrigo Paz.

UNITED STATES: The shutdown of the Long Island Rail Road, North America’s largest commuter rail system, continued into a second day yesterday after workers went on strike for the first time in three decades a day earlier over a new contract.

Kevin Sexton, national vice president of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, has said no new negotiations have been scheduled.
