Fitzpatrick takes ‘step in right direction’ with giant slalom sixth place
Menna Fitzpatrick, of Britain, competes in the para alpine skiing women's alpine combined vision impaired slalom during the 2026 Winter Paralympics, in Cortina, Italy, March 10, 2026

BRITAIN’S most decorated Winter Paralympian Menna Fitzpatrick said her sixth-placed finish in the women’s para alpine skiing giant slalom VI today was “a step in the right direction.”

Fitzpatrick, who opted against anterior cruciate ligament surgery in December in order to take part in the Games at Milan-Cortina, has already finished sixth in the Super G and ninth in the combined alpine.

With the slalom still to come, the event that brought her first gold at Pyeongchang in 2018, she feels she is finding some rhythm after clocking a combined time of 2:36.51 in the giant slalom alongside guide Charlie Guest.

“Today has been a good step in the right direction. We executed the plan that we had, it was to go more aggressive in the second run,” she said.

“We really felt that. It was all about dialling in the communication, and keep the tempo high. I have definitely grown in confidence in the last few races. It is feeling a bit more like myself and my own skiing. I am really looking forward to slalom coming up.”

Hester Poole failed to complete her first run in the same event.
