At least 555 people killed in Iran by US-Israel strikes

AT LEAST 555 people have been killed in US-Israel air strikes in Iran, with 153 people, including children, perishing in the attack on a school in the country’s south.

The Iranian Red Crescent Society said today that 747 people have also been hurt since Saturday.

The girls’ school in Minab, near an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps base, was targeted.

The US military’s Central Command said it was looking into reports of the incident, while Israel’s military said it was “not aware” of any operations in the area.

Tehran’s streets have been largely deserted with people sheltering during air strikes.

The paramilitary Basij force, which played a central role in crushing recent protests, set up checkpoints across the city, according to witnesses.

In the northern city of Babol, a student, speaking anonymously over concerns of retribution, said armed riot police were on the streets following the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

“We don’t know whether to be happy about the elimination of the criminals who oppress us or to remain silent in the face of the US and Israel’s war against the country and its interests and the terror that is taking place,” he said.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency today said air strikes had targeted the Natanz enrichment facility.

The warning contradicts an assessment by UN nuclear watchdog chief Rafael Grossi, who said the agency has “no indication” nuclear facilities have been hit.

“Again, they attacked Iran’s peaceful safeguarded nuclear facilities yesterday,” Reza Najafi told reporters at the Agency headquarters in Vienna.

“Their justification that Iran wants to develop nuclear weapons is simply a big lie.”

The Natanz site did most of Iran’s uranium enrichment before Israel and US strikes during previous tensions left it unusable.
