UNITED STATES: President Donald Trump suffered a huge loss today when the country’s Supreme Court struck down his global tariffs.

The decision relates to tariffs imposed under an emergency powers law, including the sweeping “reciprocal” tariffs he levied on nearly every country.

The decision comes from a court which he helped shape with the appointments of three right-wing jurists in his first term.

The decision doesn’t stop President Trump from imposing tariffs under other laws.

NIGERIA: At least 33 people have been killed after Islamic militants launched simultaneous attacks on a district in north-west Nigeria, according to the police.

The attack took place on Wednesday in the Biu community of Kebbi state, police spokesman Bashir Usman said in a statement late Thursday night.

“Preliminary investigations confirm that armed Lakurawa militants entered the area to rustle cattle,” he said.

TURKEY: Turkish authorities formally arrested investigative journalist Alican Uludag today, charging him with insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a series of social media posts.

Mr Uludag, of German broadcaster Deutsche Welle’s Turkish service, denied the allegations during questioning today, insisting that his posts were legitimate criticism as a judiciary reporter, according to court documents.

CAMBODIA: Two Cambodian journalists have appealed their convictions on treason charges and 14-year prison sentences for posting photographs on Facebook related to border clashes with Thailand last year, a court official said today.

Phorn Sopheap of Battambang Post TV Online and Pheap Pheara of TSP 68 TV Online were arrested in separate locations on July 31 while returning from reporting trips.
