Brazilian champions prevail in hard-fought Women’s Champions Cup semi-final
ICE HOCKEY: Glasgow Clan are looking for a new head coach after “mutually parting ways” with Corey Neilson on Tuesday. The Clan currently sit eighth in the Elite League, comfortably in the play-off zone but having lost nine of their last 10 games. Neilson was a former player and head coach at Nottingham Panthers, leading them to six Challenge Cup wins and four play-off championships during the club’s most successful era.
WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: The Women’s Super League private company, which began managing English football’s top two tiers in 2024, has announced a first year loss of £8.2 million. The deficit was covered by an interest-free loan from the men’s Premier League. Claiming the loss was “in line with the business plan” and included not reducing support for Championship teams, the company noted it will have tripled revenue by the end of this season.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: Aston Villa are already through to the Europa League’s last 16 before tonight’s tie with Salzburg while Celtic need to beat a Utrecht team that can’t qualify to make it into the play-offs. Nottingham Forest are guaranteed a play-off spot when they host Ferencvaros but Rangers are already eliminated before they visit top eight chasing Porto. Maccabi Tel Aviv sit bottom of the table with just one point from seven games.
MEN’S CRICKET: Twenty20 World Cup warm up preparations continue tomorrow as Pakistan face Australia in Lahore and 2024’s runners-up South Africa host the West Indies at Centurion Park. The Proteas cruised to a nine wicket victory in Tuesday’s first game between the teams in Paarl. Chasing 174 to win, South African captain Aiden Markham smashed nine fours and three sixes in an unbeaten 86 as they won with 13 balls to spare.
