Scottish Green membership 'surges' by 800

THE new Scottish Green leadership team has claimed membership “surges all across the country” with 800 joining in six months.

The figures were published today ahead of Gillian Mackay and Ross Greer giving their first speeches as co-leaders, having respectively won 322 and 298 of the first preference votes of the 950 members who voted in July’s election.

Welcoming the surge in membership to 8,279, its highest tally since 2016, and ahead of Tory and Lib Dem membership in Scotland, Ms Mackay said: “I am really proud to be the co-leader of a party that is growing in the polls and seeing membership surges all across the country.

“With more supporters we can take our party to the next level and take on those who are rigging the system against people and planet.

“Next May Scotland will face a crucial choice. Labour has failed and the SNP refuse to take the urgent action that is needed.

“Only the Scottish Greens will offer the real change that is needed to cut bills, support families and start to tackle the climate emergency.”
