TACKLING NHS waiting lists in Wales is a priority for Plaid Cymru, and the party pledged at the weekend to spend more on GP services.

Health spokesman Mabon ap Gwynfor said a Plaid government would invest in an innovative programme to tackle waiting lists.

“Six new elective care hubs will be established across Wales, which will deliver an industrial-scale approach to high-volume, low-complexity treatment,” Mr ap Gwynfor said.

He said “the shameful preponderance of corridor care, which has seen countless patients suffer the indignity and the danger of receiving treatment in the back of ambulances or even on floors,” would be ended and he pledged to reverse the reduction in funding of GP services from the current 6 per cent of the health budget to at least 8.7 per cent, aiming to get to 11 per cent.

Mr ap Gwynfor also pledged that Plaid would create 500 extra GPs to bring Wales closer to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation & Development average for workforce capacity in primary care.
