CLYDEBANK trade unionists resumed their battle yesterday against far-right agitation in the town.

Campaigners received a warm welcome from shoppers as they distributed copies of the Morning Star and invitations to a public meeting, being held that evening, on cuts to essential services in the town and across the country.

Clydebank TUC secretary Tam Morrison told the Star: “We’re trying to tackle the root causes.

“Politicians need to understand that cutting services isn’t just a disaster for workers and those that rely on them, but it provides the far right with fertile ground to spread their hate.

“We saw what happened in Glasgow at the weekend — 350 people standing with the far-right. 

“Comrades were right to stand firm against them at the weekend, but the vast majority weren’t racists and fascists, even if they were pulling the strings.

“Socialists must always be prepared to do that, but the socialists must also be prepared to do the hard graft, have the conversations in their own communities. That’s how we turn the tide.”
