Five MPs raked in £2m outside Parliament since July, analysis finds

NIGEL FARAGE has bagged more cash than any other MP from working other jobs, according to analysis.

The Reform leader topped the list of a small cross-party group of MPs who have raked in millions in extra cash since last year.

An analysis by Good Law Project (GLP) of MPs’ declarations found that the top five had bagged an extra £2 million on top of their salaries since the general election last July.

The far-right Reform party leader Mr Farage had declared £873,000, which GLP found was mostly from appearances on GB News, although the Clacton MP now holds 10 registered jobs.

These include writing a £4,000-a-month column for the Daily Telegraph and his role as a brand ambassador for a gold bullion firm.

Most recently, he joined Rupert Murdoch’s Sky News Australia as a commentator.

The Tory MP Geoffrey Cox came in second, earning most of his £686,000 extra cash working as a barrister.

The GLP notes that the MP for Torridge and Tavistock has spoken just eight times in the House of Commons this parliament.

Landlord Jas Athwal had the third-highest income, although the GLP notes that £180,000 is only an estimate as declarations around rental properties are ”shrouded in mystery.”

The MP for Ilford South owns three commercial properties and 15 residential entities.

London Renters’ Union recently called for the MP to stand down after toxic mould was found in his properties.

Another Labour MP, Bayo Alaba, came in fourth, with GLP estimating that the income from his portfolio of 14 properties has brought in at least £168,000.

In at number five was Tory MP Nick Timothy, who declared £145,000 in writing columns for the Telegraph.

The Good Law Project’s head of campaigns, Agustina Oliveri, warned that loopholes around declarations could mean the MPs are making “much, much more.”

A Momentum spokesperson said: “Nigel Farage claims to be a man of the people, but his extravagant earnings since being elected last July say otherwise.

“Meanwhile Jas Athwal, who has been exposed as a slum landlord, is not fit to be a Labour MP.

“It’s clear vested interests are undermining our democracy. Clamping down on them must be central to any efforts to rebuild the Labour Party’s credibility.”
