CAMPAIGNERS will gather in an online rally on Wednesday night to demand action to restore democracy in Turkey with key figures from Britain’s labour movement.
Speakers will include former Labour leader and Peace and Justice Project’s Jeremy Corbyn, Baroness Christine Blower, National Education Union’s Louise Regan and MPs and trade unionists from Turkey and Germany.
Last month, Turkish authorities seized hundreds of politicians, trade union leaders, campaigners, artists and journalists in a mass crackdown on opposition voices.
The rally will discuss how to escalate solidarity with those arrested, “dismantle repressive rule in Turkey” and increase pressure on the British government to act.
A Solidarity with the People Of Turkey (Spot) statement said: “We call on all who value democracy, human rights and justice to join us in standing against authoritarianism and oppression in Turkey.
“Together, we can amplify our voices and demand change.”
The event will be screened on the Spot X account as well as Facebook and Youtube from 7pm.
