Carol (15)
Directed by Todd Haynes
4/5

THIS stylish adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s seminal novel The Price of Salt memorably captures the social climate of the 1950s in its focus on gay love in the post-war US.

Todd Haynes’s film, set in New York, centres on young shop assistant Therese (Rooney Mara) who’s dreaming of a better life. She falls for an older sophisticated married woman Carol (Cate Blanchett) who’s in the midst of divorcing her husband (Kyle Chandler).
