Venezuela: Mud threatens unofficial vote on Maduro reforms

VENEZUELA’S putschist opposition vowed on Monday to hold an unofficial referendum in a bid to delegitimise the government’s constitutional reform process.

Socialist President Nicolas Maduro has called elections to a constituent assembly on July 30, hoping the body will chart a course out of the country’s crisis.

Three months of riots incited by the opposition Democratic Unity Roundtable (Mud) coalition in an effort to bring down the government have left more than 80 people dead.
