29-year-old dies after collapsing at London Marathon
Runners make their way over Tower Bridge during the 2018 London Marathon

LONDON marathon organisers said today that 29-year-old Matt Campbell had died after collapsing near the end of yesterday’s race in the hottest conditions ever seen at the event.

Campbell, a chef from north-west England who was a contestant on MasterChef last year, completed the Manchester marathon in under three hours just earlier this month.

He died after collapsing after the 22.5-mile mark yesterday.

Organisers said that, “although he received immediate medical treatment on the scene from race doctors, he died later in hospital.”

A medical examination is still required to discover the cause of death.
