ISS refuse to back down on holding back workers' wages

THERE is a ”rising tide of anger” sweeping through London hospitals after subcontracting giant ISS refused to back down on holding back workers’ wages.

GMB members working for the agency at Kingston, King’s College and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trusts are holding a mass grievance hearing tomorrow against the pay changes.

This is on top of grievances in the past fortnight at the Queen Elizabeth and Princess Royal hospitals.

ISS management has justified these moves as being part of a wider “pay harmonisation scheme.”

However, this has led to allegations from workers that they are starving while in work, and are unable to pay bills.

In formal negotiations, the GMB union asked ISS to pay the workers in advance, but this was refused.

GMB regional organiser Helen O’Connor told the Star: “All the signs are telling us that once again the legitimate concerns of ISS workers regarding their pay, terms and conditions are being ignored by ISS.

“Workers have been joining GMB in large numbers because they have had enough of this exploitative contractor.

“There is a rising tide of anger building against ISS across London and the country.

“ISS have struck another blow against their work force by failing to offer a modest cash sum to workers plunged into a financial black hole by these pay changes.

“GMB members won’t take this lying down and will support our members to take all steps necessary up to and including industrial action, to get redress.”
