Gold, Sullivan and Brady ‘no longer welcome’ at the Hammers
Fans demand owners quit West Ham during narrow defeat to Liverpool
Angry West Ham fans

WEST HAM UNITED fans protested against their club’s owners as their team put up a fight against runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool on Monday night.

A collection of banners filled the away end as supporters aired their views on owners David Sullivan and David Gold, and vice-chairwoman Karren Brady.

“Run like a circus, owned by clowns,” read one, with another saying “sold a dream, delivered a nightmare.”

The club has not felt the same to many supporters since moving to the London Stadium from the Boleyn Ground, which had been their home for 112 years.

This, combined with poor form and poor overall management of the club from the top has seen West Ham drop into the relegation zone.

They have claimed just two points in their last seven Premier League games and were knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship side West Bromwich Albion.

But for a moment during this game against Liverpool it appeared the Hammers might come away with an unlikely victory. Issa Diop cancelled out Georginio Wijnaldum’s opener, and substitute Pablo Fornals gave the visitors the lead in the second half.

Liverpool then moved through the gears on the pitch and the fans in the stands responded. The league leaders eventually secured their 26th win in 27 league games thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, maintaining a 22 point gap at the top of the table.

West Ham fans displayed their banners until after the final whistle, and have organised a protest march along Newham Greenway ahead of the home game against Southampton on Saturday, beginning in Plaistow at 12.15pm.

“We want you out now, and on February 29 we are coming to tell you,” say Hammers United, the supporters’ group organising the march. “Gold, Sullivan and Brady, you are no longer welcome at OUR football club.”

Supporters can also join the march at Stratford High Street and Pudding Mill Lane before a rally, which will take place at the Marshgate Lane entrance to the stadium.
