Thousands sign petition in Poland calling for Rosa Luxemburg plaque to be restored

THOUSANDS of Poles have signed a petition calling for the restoration of a plaque commemorating Marxist revolutionary Rosa Luxemburg that was removed in March from her birthplace in the town Zamosc.

Provincial authorities ordered the removal of more than 100 street names, plaques and monuments associated with labour leaders, workers’ struggles and the liberation from nazi occupation by the Red Army, claiming they were “incompatible with democracy.”
