Initial Israeli election results cast uncertainty across the country

ISRAEL’s initial parliamentary election results cast uncertainty across the country today, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expected to fail to reach a majority.
With about 90 per cent of the vote counted by this morning, Mr Netanyahu’s Likud party and its ultra-orthodox and far-right allies were expected to fall two seats short of a 61-seat majority.
If a coalition is not formed and a fifth election is sought, Mr Netanyahu would remain a caretaker prime minister while facing a corruption trial and possible confrontation with United States President Joe Biden over Iran.
