INDUSTRIALL has called on Iran to address the demands of striking petrochemical workers and to intervene and immediately reinstate 700 workers sacked for joining the action.
The global union’s general secretary Valter Sanchez wrote to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Monday, urging him to respect trade union rights and abide by International Labour Organisation conventions.
“It is imperative that the government address the fair demands from the oil and gas sector concerning better wages, including a set of wage demands for each employment category, adequate social security and better living conditions,” the letter stated.
The Committee for the Defence of Iranian People’s Rights (Codir) welcomes demonstrations across Iran, which have put pressure upon the theocratic dictatorship, but warns against intervention by the United States to force Iran in a particular direction
