Labour: Sturgeon must back or sack death hospital board
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon

SCOTTISH Labour will bring forward a vote in Holyrood calling for the senior management of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde (NHSGGC) to be sacked as a result of the ongoing scandal at a superhospital.

The party has said that the SNP government must choose which side they are on: bereaved families and bullied clinicians or out-of-touch managers.

At First Minister’s Questions in Holyrood last week, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar revealed that a further two deaths at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital may be linked to infected water supply.

Scottish Labour will be using part of its allotted business slot on Wednesday to put forward its call for the senior management of the health board to be dismissed and the health board’s poor performance raised to level five, the highest level of escalation, warranting ministerial intervention.

Mr Sarwar said: “The ongoing scandal at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is the greatest of the devolution era, but the SNP government has failed to act.

“Lives have been lost, families have been shattered and whistleblowers have been put under incredible strain.

“In any other country there would be resignations and sackings. But under this SNP government, it has been nothing but denial and cover-up.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon “has a straight choice on the leadership of the health board: back them or sack them.

“That’s why this week in Parliament, Scottish Labour will give all parties the chance to do right by the families affected and vote to send a message to this government that words are not enough.”

The Scottish government was approached for comment.
