The Morning Star Shop
One of these things is not like the others…
There’s one paper with a difference – one that’s owned by its readers, says Morning Star campaigns manager CALVIN TUCKER. And if you’re at Labour conference why not drop by the stall for a special subscription offer?

READ the one that’s different! That was the punchline to a social media meme that showed the Queen’s face splashed across the front page of every national newspaper bar the Morning Star, which led on the Tory handouts to the fuel fat cats.

What makes us unique is that we are owned by our readers, not by an oligarch or a trust fund.

Our editorial position is firmly on the side of workers in struggle, and we bow to no boss, banker, or king.

After 10 days of state-organised mourning, the theme of the Morning Star fringe meeting at Labour conference: Media Monopolies and the Assault on Democracy, could hardly be more timely and relevant.

How did we end up with a media that is so supine, so uniformly pro-big business and anti-union, that when Mick Lynch from the RMT does nothing more than politely challenge the official narrative, the TV presenters are reduced to bumbling wrecks? Perhaps more importantly, what can we do about it?

Beginning at 12pm on Tuesday in Grace Suite 2 at Liverpool’s Hilton Hotel (and livestreamed on the Morning Star Facebook page), delegates and visitors to conference will hear from a stellar panel of journalists, MPs and trade unionists, including the paper’s editor Ben Chacko, Richard Burgon MP and Unite’s Gail Cartmail.

On each morning of conference, come rain or shine, our army of volunteers distribute the paper free to delegates, while our reporters are inside covering the debates on the floor, or at fringe meetings where more often than not, the real politics gets discussed.

If you’d like to help, or just fancy a chat, please pop by our exhibition stand and say hello. We have a special half-price subscription deal we’ve put together for delegates, and you can enjoy a boiled sweet on us while you mull it over.

Wherever you are this weekend, the Morning Star will be packed full of all the news, analysis and features from Labour conference in Liverpool.

If you’re already a daily reader, why not take the opportunity to introduce a friend, relative, or workmate to “the one that’s different”?
