CITY OF LIVERPOOL fell to defeat at home to 1874 Northwich on Saturday in a game of few clearcut chances in dreadful conditions.
The Purps could have gone ahead midway through the first half when a cross from Jack Hazlehurst was sliced across his own goal by Matthew Fenton, narrowly evading Kevin Ellison who would have had a tap-in at the back post.
But the visitors went ahead on 42 minutes when Joe Woolley tapped home from close range after Matthew Woolley’s angle drive was parried.
City of Liverpool equalised a minute later, however, when Max Allen’s free kick was fumbled by 74 keeper Tony Aghayere, with Danny Mitchley taking full advantage to fire home left-footed.
After the break the visitors went ahead from the spot courtesy of skipper Matthew Woolley after a hand-ball. The Purps were aggrieved not to get a spot kick of their own late on when Mitchley was felled in the box, but the referee remained unmoved.
