MORE changes are needed at the top of Royal Mail, the Communication Workers Union (CWU) said today after under-fire chief executive Simon Thompson finally confirmed rumours that he plans to step down.
The former banker, who was accused of misleading MPs earlier this year when he denied that bosses were intrusively tracking workers’ productivity, will remain in post until the end of October but said it was the “right time” to go.
The privatised firm’s parent company, International Distributions Services, reportedly wanted fresh leadership after the 500-year-old public service reached a deal with the CWU in April that could end a long-running and bitter dispute over working conditions and pay.
