BRITAIN’S main club for climate change deniers has seen its donations plummet, campaigning website DeSmog revealed today.

The Global Warming Policy Foundation’s 2023 accounts show that donations have dropped from £346,000 to £201,000.

GWPF was founded by late Conservative chancellor Nigel Lawson in 2009. Its director, Benny Peiser, has said that it was “extraordinary anyone should think there is a climate crisis.”

A registered charity, it is constrained by Charity Commission regulations limiting political activity. 

The Good Law Project has been urging the commission to launch an investigation, claiming the charity is funding non-charitable lobbying work through its subsidiary Net Zero Watch.

Good Law Project executive director Jolyon Maugham told DeSmog: “The profile of GWPF – rapid rise then inevitable decline – is emblematic of dark money funded pressure groups generally. 

“Like a burner phone they are cheap to buy and easily abandoned when they become toxic.

“The mystery here is why its brand of pseudoscience has been protected by the Charity Commission.”
