Arsenal 5-0 Brighton

by Layth Yousif at Meadow Park

VIV MIEDEMA made it a farewell for the ages when the Arsenal legend grabbed a goal moments after coming on in her final appearance for the Gunners.

The world-class Netherlands international who suffered an ACL injury last season scored two minutes after replacing Alessia Russo in the 62nd minute — to send the sold-out Meadow Park crowd wild with delight.

On a balmy afternoon Saturday afternoon at Boreham Wood the Gunners ended their WSL campaign by easing past Brighton through two first-half goals through Russo, followed by Miedema’s 64th-minute effort that evaded Seagulls’ keeper Sophie Baggaley to make it 3-0, following good work by Beth Mead.

Worse was to come for the visitors when Jorelyn Carabali scored an own goal to make the score 4-0 to Arsenal.

As the clock ticked down in front of 3,583 fans there was still time for Frida Maanum to break through and slot home with aplomb to make the final score 5-0, with Jonas Eidevall’s side ending the season in third place in the WSL.
