King Charles accepted honorary law degree from Nazi veteran
King Charles III during a reception for the Prince's Trust Award 2024 winners, supporters and ambassadors at Buckingham Palace in London, May 22, 2024

KING CHARLES received an award from a former member of the Waffen-SS, investigative website Declassified UK revealed today.

The news platform obtained a photo of the then prince Charles accepting an honorary law degree at the University of Alberta in Canada in 1983.

In his acceptance speech, he spoke of those who had “sacrificed their lives 40 years ago” in the fight against Adolf Hitler.

Yet the award was presented by Peter Savaryn, the university’s chancellor, who once served in the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS.

The investigation also found that Princess Diana was pictured with Mr Savaryn several times.

Mr Savaryn was one of about 2,000 Ukrainian Waffen-SS fighters who emigrated to Canada.

Last year, Canadian Governor-General Mary Simon apologised after it emerged that Mr Savaryn had been awarded the Order of Canada in 1987.

Also in 2023, the Canadian House of Commons gave a standing ovation to fellow Waffen-SS Galicia veteran Yaroslav Hunka.
