Caledonia Gladiators have announced that Malik Dunbar and Jared Wilson-Frame, who both joined the club in December, have been sacked after a “serious breach of club discipline.”
In a further twist, the club also announced an internal review after discovering that they had signed Dunbar less than two months after US police had identified him as a principal suspect in a fatal shooting.
MEN’S FOOTBALL:
Pontevedra’s giant-killing run in the Copa Del Rey came to an end on Wednesday night after they went down 1-0 at home to Getafe.
Despite enjoying over 80 per cent possession the fourth-tier team, who sit 52 places below Getafe, were undone by Alvaro Rodriguez’s second-minute goal.
Getafe have been joined in the quarter-finals by Barcelona, who crushed Real Betis 5-1, Atletico Madrid, Leganes and Valencia.
MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE:
Despite achieving their highest-ever Super League finish last season, Salford have had financial restrictions placed upon them by the Rugby Football League (RFL) and been ordered to sell players to raise revenue before the new season starts in four weeks’ time.
The club had been ordered to reduce their overheads by £800,000 in November after receiving an advance payment for 2025 from the RFL.

Highland League table-toppers Brechin City kick off the Scottish Cup 4th round tomorrow evening when they host eight-time winners Hearts at Glebe Park.
The pick of the other ties see fellow highlanders Fraserburgh visit Rangers on Sunday, League Two’s Elgin City up against Aberdeen, Ayr United visiting Broxburn from the Lowland League, holders Celtic taking on Kilmarnock tomorrow and the Dundee derby on Monday evening.
