Britain's first multi-brand returnable drinking cup scheme launched in Glasgow

THE first multi-brand returnable drinking cup scheme in Britain has been been launched in Glasgow.

More than 40 outlets have joined the scheme run by environmental charity Hubbub and recycling start-up Reposit, from Burger King and Caffe Nero, to the city council’s cafes at the Kelvingrove Museum and Glasgow City Chambers.

The scheme hopes to cut down on the 388 million disposable cups that Zero Waste Scotland estimates are discarded across the country each year, by asking customers to pay a £1 deposit for a Borrow Cup which can then be returned for a £1 voucher at any participant business.
