CAA workers hold joint strike action as pay row escalates

THE Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) faces joint strike action by hundreds of workers over a pay row tomorrow.

About 450 members of the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) and Prospect unions are expected to strike at the aviation regulator.

The union members are also taking part in a continuous overtime ban.

PCS members previously walked out on January 16 and 17 after rejecting a pay offer.

After years of below-inflation pay rises, the offer would have seen them receive as little as 3 per cent.

PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote said: “Our members at the CAA are sick and tired of being undervalued.

“The rushed imposition of a pay offer has only added fuel to the fire.

“If the CAA refuses to make an acceptable pay offer in line with what we've seen elsewhere in the aviation sector, then more joint strike days will follow.”

Prospect is to resume its industrial action short of a strike — working to rule and an overtime ban — tomorrow.

Its deputy general secretary, Rachel Curley, said that the CAA has still not come to the table with an offer our members can accept.

The CAA said that it continues to “engage with our union colleagues.”
