MEN’S FOOTBALL: Ex-league clubs Chester and Kidderminster both made it through to the FA Cup’s fourth qualifying round after replay wins on Tuesday night.
Chester, who were relegated from the football league in 2000, edged past Stockton Town 1-0 to set up a fourth qualifying round match at Scarborough, who had crashed out of the league a year before them.
Kidderminster saw off Buxton 2-0 and will next face Guiseley.
NETBALL: England beat New Zealand 59-55 on Wednesday morning in Porirua to lift the Taini Jamison trophy and seal their three-match series with a game to spare.
The Roses dominated the third quarter, coming from being down 28-27 at half-time to claim their third consecutive win over the Silver Ferns, who were ranked as the world’s second-best team behind Australia before this series.
The third test is in Invercargill on Sunday.
MEN’S CRICKET: Yashasvi Jaiswal hit a rapid 51 as India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets in Kanpur on Tuesday to earn a 2-0 series victory and extended their own record by winning an 18th consecutive home test series.
The victory also extends their lead at the top of the Test Championship table over current champions Australia. India next face New Zealand before playing the Aussies in late November.
WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Premier League table-toppers Rangers face third-placed Celtic at Cumbernauld’s Broadwood stadium on Thursday evening.
Both teams are unbeaten this season, but Rangers have won all seven of their games, conceding only one goal, and sit two points clear of the defending champions.
Glasgow City are level on points with Rangers in second but have played a game more and a vastly inferior goal difference.
