MEN’S RUGBY UNION: Defending URC champions Glasgow enjoyed an eight try 52-36 win in Cardiff as Leinster continued their perfect start with a 35-5 success at bottom club Benetton and the Lions thumped Edinburgh 55-21.

Stormers romped to a 36-5 win at Zebre, Munster dominated the Ospreys 23-0, Connacht edged to a 24-23 victory at Scarlets, Ulster went down 47-21 at the Bulls and the Sharks needed an injury time try to beat Newport Dragons 33-30.

WOMEN’S RUGBY UNION: Ireland were beaten 21-8 by hosts Canada in Vancouver in their second match of the WXV1 tournament.

Despite a battling display, Ireland fell far short after beating world champions New Zealand in their opening game. Canada face England next, with Ireland’s final match on Friday against the US.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Ballymena top the Irish Premiership for the first time in six years after they improved their winning run to nine games with a 4-1 victory over Loughall, who slipped to the bottom of the table.

Previous league leaders Linfield lost out 3-1 at home to Glentoran, Crusaders squeezed past Coleraine 2-1, Carrick Rangers earned a surprise 2-0 win over Cliftonville and Glenavon came from behind to beat Portadown 2-1.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Tries from Sunia Turuva, Paul Alamoti and man of the match Liam Martin helped Penrith come from behind to beat Melbourne Storm 14-6 and claim their fourth successive NRL grand final championship in front of an 80,000 crowd at Sydney’s Olympic stadium on Sunday morning.

Melbourne won the league in the regular season, finishing four points ahead of Penrith and beating them twice.
