MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Chad Townsend’s golden point drop goal earned North Queensland a 21-20 win over Newcastle but Xavier Coates stole the NRL headlines with a spectacular last minute try as Melbourne edged the New Zealand Warriors 30-26.

Brisbane saw off South Sydney 28-18, Cronulla brushed aside Canterbury 25-6, champions Penrith beat Parramatta 26-18, Manly defeated Sydney Roosters 21-14 and St George lost heavily 38-0 at the Dolphins on Sunday.

MEN’S CYCLING: Jesper Philipsen became the first sprinter in eight years to win Saturday’s Milan-San Remo race after narrowly holding off Michael Matthews and Tadej Pogacar in a photo-finish at the end of a bunch sprint on Via Roma.

Britain’s Tom Pidcock came in 11th on the same time as the winner, with Fred Wright just 35 seconds behind in 30th place. Philipsen’s average speed of 46.11km/h set a new record for the race.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Lee Bonis bagged four goals as reigning champions Larne thumped Glenavon 6-1 to stay two points clear in the Irish Premiership after second-placed Linfield had also been among the goals, crushing bottom club Newry 6-0.

Cliftonville won 3-2 at Loughall, Ballymena’s miserable form continued with a 2-0 loss at home to Carrick Rangers, Crusaders drew 1-1 with Coleraine and Glentoran won 3-0 at Dungannon.
