MEN’S CYCLING: Jesper Philipsen became the first sprinter in eight years to win Saturday’s Milan-San Remo race after narrowly holding off Michael Matthews and Tadej Pogacar in a photo-finish at the end of a bunch sprint on Via Roma.
Britain’s Tom Pidcock came in 11th on the same time as the winner, with Fred Wright just 35 seconds behind in 30th place. Philipsen’s average speed of 46.11km/h set a new record for the race.
