MEN’S FOOTBALL: Crawley romped to a 5-1 win at Milton Keynes to secure a thumping 8-1 aggregate success in their League Two semi-final play-off on Saturday afternoon.
As Milton Keynes extended their unwanted record of playing in six play-offs without reaching a final, Crawley set up their first ever Wembley appearance and will face Crewe, who beat Doncaster on penalties, in next weekend’s final.
NETBALL: Manchester Thunder saw off Cardiff 63-44 on Saturday to maintain their three-point Super League lead over Loughborough, who eased to a 76-51 at Team Bath and London Pulse, 58-53 winners over Surrey Storm.
The top three have now qualified for the end of season play-offs. Joyce Mvula scored 40 goals without a miss as Leeds overcame Saracens 59-49 and the Severn Stars saw off bottom-club Strathclyde 61-50.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: Solihull Moors suffered their second Wembley penalty shoot-out defeat in seven days after losing out to Gateshead in Saturday’s FA Trophy final.
The match had finished 2-2 after extra time before last year’s runners-up Gateshead won it 5-4 on penalties.
Solihull had lost their National League promotion play-off final against Bromley on spot kicks after a 2-2 draw just last weekend.
MEN’S RUGBY UNION: Llandovery retained their Welsh Premiership title after Rhodri Jones’s second-half try helped them come from behind to beat Newport 14-7 in Saturday’s grand final.
Llandovery also sealed the domestic double, having won the Welsh Cup against Merthyr at the Principality Stadium in April. Llandovery, Newport and Merthyr will all compete in next season’s Elite Development League, which replaces the Welsh Premiership.
MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Cronulla sit two points clear in the NRL thanks to a 25-18 win at Melbourne as reigning champions Penrith moved second after edging out Canterbury 16-10.
Brisbane Broncos won 30-14 at Parramatta, the Dolphins held off Manly 30-24, bottom club South Sydney lost 28-14 at St George and Newcastle beat Wests 20-14.
The Roosters beat New Zealand Warriors 38-18 and Gold Coast held off North Queensland 20-18 on Sunday.
