THE Cuba Vive Appeal announced that it has raised an astonishing £555,000 today, thanks to the “extraordinary solidarity of supporters in Britain and across the world.”
Since February 2025, 14 major consignments have been delivered to Cuba. With donated supplies, these represent more than £2.5 million-worth of medical equipment, medicines, food and emergency aid reaching hospitals, clinics and communities.
Cuba Solidarity Campaign director Rob Miller said: “Your solidarity is helping to save and improve lives.
“Reaching £555,000 is an incredible achievement. We thank every individual, trade union, CSC group and organisation that has contributed.”
Cuban Ambassador Ismara Vargas Walter described the milestone as a demonstration of “the unwavering solidarity of the people of Britain with the people of Cuba.”
This aid is only necessary because the genocidal US blockade is deliberately depriving Cubans of fuel, food, medicines and other essentials. UN experts have warned that urgent action is needed to prevent a “silent Gaza” from unfolding in Cuba.
The appeal continues, with further consignments ready to ship. As the need is greater than ever, please continue donating, fundraising and spreading the word.
Communist Party general secretary Alex Gordon said: “The Communist Party congratulates the Cuba Solidarity Campaign and all the trades unions and grassroots organisations representing millions of workers in Britain on raising half a million pounds for this socialist island through its ¡Cuba Vive! appeal.
“This appeal raises awareness of the criminal and illegal US blockade against Cuba, which as President Miguel Diaz-Canel has said has the character of a genocide.
“Our own comrades recently exceeded our target by raising £26,000 before July 26 to fund a container of medical and food aid.”
Richard Burgon MP told the Morning Star: “Donald Trump’s appalling attempt to strangle millions of ordinary Cubans into submission is illegal and inhumane and must be opposed. Our response must be political and practical action.”
