Cameron Norrie’s run at the Los Cabos Open came to an end with a semi-final defeat to defending champion Denis Shapovalov

NETBALL: England missed out on a netball medal after suffering a second crushing defeat to Australia on the final day of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The Roses fell away after a promising first quarter to lose 68-50, emulating their earlier 66-47 defeat to the Diamonds in the group phase. Australia, who had been forced to quickly regroup after Saturday’s stunning last-gasp semi-final loss to Jamaica, dominated the second half of the contest to secure the bronze medal.

MEN’S TENNIS: Cameron Norrie’s run at the Los Cabos Open came to an end with a semi-final defeat to defending champion Denis Shapovalov. Norrie ended a six-match losing run in the opening round and added two more victories but Canadian Shapovalov edged a close contest, winning 6-3 5-7 6-4 after two hours and 38 minutes. The defeat means Norrie stays just behind British number one Arthur Fery in the rankings.

WOMEN’S CRICKET: England’s medical team have ruled batter Danni Wyatt-Hodge out of the remainder of The Hundred. MI London batter Wyatt-Hodge sustained a left calf tear during her innings of 52 not out in a narrow defeat by Southern Brave on July 27. Wyatt-Hodge has been replaced in the ML London squad by Ella Claridge and faces a race against time to be fit for England’s three-match ODI series with Ireland next month.

MEN’S CRICKET: London Spirit fast bowler Tymal Mills will miss the rest of this year’s The Hundred with a hamstring injury. Mills, who was the leading wicket-taker in the 100-ball competition with 51 scalps until being surpassed by Adil Rashid on Saturday night, featured in Spirit’s opener against Manchester Super Giants on July 23. However, former England international Mills only sent down five balls and has missed Spirit’s last three matches.
