ADAM RAMSAY-PEATY made a swift return to the Commonwealth Games swimming pool today as he qualified for the semi-finals of the men’s 50 metre breaststroke event.

Ramsay-Peaty, who had broken down in tears after taking bronze in the 100m event on Saturday night, qualified fifth fastest for last night’s semi-finals, which took place after the Star went to press, at the shorter distance.

His time of 27.27 seconds was enough to eclipse Jersey 18-year-old Filip Nowacki, who had beaten him to the silver medal 12 hours earlier, and finished just behind him in 27.29.

But Ramsay-Peaty’s time was comfortably eclipsed by Australia’s Sam Williamson, the 100m winner, who won heat eight in a time of 26.75, leaving Ramsay-Peaty with it all to do to return to the top of the podium.

Ramsay-Peaty’s qualifying time was also bettered by South African pair Michael Houlie and Chris Smith, and Namibia’s Ronan Wantenaar.
