MEN’S BOXING: Ireland’s Pierce O’Leary suffered his first career defeat when he was knocked out by Mark Chamberlain in the tenth round of Saturday night’s fight for his IBO light-welterweight title in Dublin. British and Commonwealth champion Chamberlain improved his career record to 17 wins from 19 bouts. In Las Vegas this morning, William Zepeda comprehensively outpointed Lamont Roach to win the WBC lightweight title.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: York City play their first game since returning to League Two when they host Crawley in tomorrow’s English League Cup qualifying round tie. The winners are drawn away at Watford in next week’s first round. Rochdale marked their return to League Two by beating Tranmere on penalties, after a 2-2 draw, in Saturday’s other qualifying round tie. Rochdale will travel to League One’s Bradford in the first round.

SPEEDWAY: Norwich-born Robert Lambert, who currently rides for Torun in Poland, climbed into third place in the World Championship after winning Saturday night’s Polish Grand Prix in Lodz. Brady Kurtz finished third to move level at the top with defending champion Bartosz Zmarzlik, who failed to reach the top four for the first time in over a year. There are three rounds left with the racers moving on to Latvia next weekend.

MEN’S CYCLING: Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel won the Clasica San Sebastian one-day race for a record fourth time on Saturday. Richard Carapaz, who claimed two stages and the King of the Mountains classification at the Tour de France, finished second after being overhauled in the home straight. Britain’s Ben Tulett won the sprint for third place, ahead of a big group including 2024’s winner Giulio Ciccone, 29 seconds behind Evenepoel.
