WIGAN coach Matt Peet expects Leeds to come back stronger in the play-offs after his side crushed the Rhinos to all but secure the League Leaders’ Shield.

The Warriors ran out comfortable 40-8 winners in Saturday’s battle between the Super League’s top two sides at AMT Headingley to move two points clear.

They will clinch top spot if they avoid defeat at home to Catalans Dragons next week, but Peet knows their work is far from done.

Peet said: “I knew we were coming up against a great team in good form and it was going to be a big occasion. To get the job done, I’m pleased.

“We knew it was going to take that kind of defensive performance against Leeds because they are constantly asking questions.

“They’ll go away and come back better I’m sure, so we have to be prepared to keep improving as well.”

Adam Keighran scored a hat-trick in an outstanding Wigan performance while youngster Austin Daniel and established stars Liam Marshall, Bevan French and Jai Field also crossed.

Leeds lost full-back Lachlan Miller inside the first 10 minutes and coach Brad Arthur fears his season could be over.

“He’s not great,” said Arthur. “He’s going to have some scans but I don’t think it’s a strain, I think he’s torn his hamstring.

“It’s hard to lose a player of his quality. We were a bit disjointed from that but we’ve still got to be more resilient.”

Warrington’s hopes of finishing in the top two are effectively over after Wakefield overturned an eight-point half-time deficit to tighten their grip on a top-four spot with a 25-18 win at the DIY Kitchens Stadium.

Two tries from Isaiah Vagana early in the second half swung the game Trinity’s way, while York came from behind to beat Catalans 28-16 in Perpignan.
