THE top French diplomat in the Central African Republic (CAR) faces disciplinary action following allegations that he brought dozens of women into his official residence and had sex with some of them, it was reported yesterday.
The allegations against ambassador Bruno Foucher, which refer to events said to have happened between January 2024 and March this year, has led to France’s Foreign Ministry initiating disciplinary procedures against the ambassador, which are “ongoing,” according to sources.
French media outlets report that Mr Foucher is alleged to have invited about 30 women to his residence in the capital, Bangui.
Some of the women are said to have stayed overnight, raising security concerns.
Mr Foucher has been serving as his country’s top diplomat in Bangui since 2023.
The French embassy in Bangui has been approached for comment.
The alleged misconduct by Mr Foucher comes as France and the CAR are working to improve their bilateral relationship, which had reached a breaking point in the past.
During his visit to Bangui in March, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot praised the “complete restoration of relations” between the two countries.
