Communist Party smashes target for Cuba appeal, raising £32,000
BLACKOUT: People carry water during a power outage in Havana, Cuba

THE Communist Party has announced that it has smashed its Cuba appeal by raising £32,000 to provide life-saving supplies to Cubans resisting the US blockade.

A drive to help the Caribbean country which has been pushed to the brink by an illegal oil siege imposed by the US President Donald Trump since January was organised by the CP and the Young Communist League (YCL).

Organisers also thanked the Co-ordinating Committee of Communist Parties including the Partido Comunista de Chile, Cyprus’s Akel, the Iraqi Communist Party, the Tudeh Party of Iran and the Communist Party of Sudan.

“This money will provide vital supplies to the Cuban people as they continue to resist US imperial aggression and the criminal blockade designed to starve the revolution,” the party wrote in a social media post.

The Trump administration’s oil blockade has worsened already crippling blackouts, cut workers off from public transport, crippled infrastructure and severely worsened shortages in medicine and food.
