“I LOVE old people” declares Dr Valentine, in Richard Eyre’s film adaptation of Alan Bennett’s aclaimed play, as he lovingly introduces you to The Beth, a small Yorkshire hospital for the elderly and its patients which is under threat of closure.
This film’s release could not be more perfectly timed.
“Even old people don’t like old people,” states another character in this witty yet biting critique, adapted for the big screen by Call The Midwife’s creator Heidi Thomas.
