The Defiance Sessions
Glossop Labour Club
5/5
GLOSSOP Labour Club has been presenting The Defiance Sessions for over a year now and this night of politically charged entertainment is hosted by Matt Hill — aka Quiet Loner — in honour of musician Chris Evans, who sadly died last year.
Hill, songwriter in residence at Manchester’s People’s History Museum, is obviously finding inspiration from the many stories on offer there and new song 1928 is a brilliant tale about the anniversary of universal suffrage and the importance of voting.
SOPHIE WENBAN recommends a remarkable Italian quartet who revive Bluegrass on period instruments to give a taste of the communal spirit that first made it popular
New releases from Old Spot, Chris Marksberry, and Clementine Lovell
CHRIS SEARLE recommends a new album featuring Pat Thomas and Ahmed, and marvels at the tempestuous power of a live performance
WILL STONE applauds a comprehensive survey of love in its many moods and musical forms
