Xi takes steps to defuse trade war with US
CHINESE President Xi Jinping took steps to defuse conflict with Washington over technology and trade today by promising to cut import duties on cars, improve intellectual property protection and boost imports.
He disclosed the proposals to the Boao Forum for Asia business conference in Hainan province.
This olive branch coincided, however, with the announcement that Beijing has lodged a complaint with the World Trade Organisation over the US threat to impose tariffs on steel and aluminium imports.
