SOUTH AFRICA: A woman’s body was found today in an area east of Johannesburg where the discovery of several other victims in the past two months has sparked fears of a potential serial killer at large.

Police have issued a public warning for women to be cautious when jogging and performing other activities in the area.

 

NETHERLANDS: A major power cut hit parts of the railway system early today and the company that maintains the infrastructure said it was treating the cause as possible sabotage.

“Materials deliberately placed on the tracks have been found at several locations. This is causing track-circuit failures. It appears to be a case of sabotage,” Prorail said in a statement.

 

ISRAEL: Culture Minister Miki Zohar has called for Oscar-winning Israeli film directors Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, whose new documentary Naza accuses the Israeli army of mass civilian killings in Gaza, to be stripped of their citizenship for “treason against the state.”

Mr Zohar said he had asked the authorities “to investigate how the materials were obtained, who is behind them and whether, in the process of obtaining or publishing them, actions were taken that amounted to aiding the enemy during wartime.”

 

UNITED STATES: The Environmental Protection Agency is repealing rules that limit greenhouse gas emissions from power plants fuelled by coal and natural gas.

The agency announced on Monday that it was taking a separate but related step to prevent future administrations from regulating planet-warming pollution from power plants.
