UNITED STATES: Officials told the AP news agency on the condition of anonymity today that the government is investigating an unauthorised release of classified documents assessing Israel’s plans to attack Iran.

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and National Security Agency documents note that Israel was still moving military assets in place to conduct a military strike in response to Iran’s missile attack on October 1.

The investigation is also examining how the documents were obtained and whether any other intelligence information was compromised.

ALBANIA: Former president Ilir Meta was arrested in the capital, Tirana, today on alleged corruption charges.

PAKISTAN: Polio cases are rising ahead of a new vaccination campaign, but violence targeting health workers and the police protecting them is hampering years of efforts toward making the country polio-free.

Since January, health officials have confirmed 39 new polio cases in Pakistan, compared to only six last year, said Anwarul Haq of the National Emergency Operation Centre for Polio Eradication.

The new nationwide drive starts October 28, and aims to vaccinate at least 32 million children.

GREECE: A search-and-rescue operation off the coast of the island of Samos recovered the bodies of two people reported missing overnight after a boat carrying 24 people ran into trouble in rough weather, the coastguard said today.

Authorities said they received a distress call from the passengers on the vessel and a coastguard patrol boat located it, semi-submerged, north of Samos.

Twenty-two people were rescued, and survivors alerted the coast guard to the two missing passengers.
