TURKEY: Police stormed the offices of Turkey’s main opposition Republican Peoples’ Party (CHP) today, firing tear gas and rubber bullets at a crowd of party supporters and officials gathered outside the gates.
It was a violent end to a standoff between members of the CHP and its new court-appointed leadership.
Last Thursday the top court nullified the election of Ozgur Ozel as party chairperson and members of the party’s executive board.
SPAIN: Thousands of people rallied in central Madrid today against spiralling housing costs that have priced many Spaniards out of the housing market despite a recent economic boom, particularly in cities such as the capital and Barcelona.
The protesters chanted slogans and held banners highlighting their right to housing. “We want neighbours, not tourists,” one banner read.
PHILIPPINES: A nine-storey building under construction in a city north of the Philippine capital Manila collapsed before dawn today, leaving at least one Malaysian tourist dead and at least 21 people, mostly workers, trapped in the rubble, officials said. Two were located alive but could not be immediately extricated.
At least 24 workers either managed to escape or were rescued after the building collapsed.

No-one was hurt in the attack but 18 people with suspected Ebola infections left the facility and are now unaccounted for, a local hospital director said.
