PAKISTAN: A motorcycle packed with explosives detonated in the north-western Pakistani city of Peshawar today morning, killing two people and severely injuring another, police said.

The explosion, in the Board Bazaar area of Peshawar, occurred prematurely, said senior superintendent of regional police operations Kashif Abbasi, without without revealing the intended target.

TURKEY: Turkish police detained 33 people suspected of ties to the Islamic State group, who were allegedly preparing attacks ahead of the country’s local elections on March 31, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said today.

The suspects were “preparing and searching for action before the upcoming local elections,” he posted on X, formerly Twitter. 

INDONESIA: Torrential rains have caused flash floods and a landslide on Indonesia’s Sumatra island, killing at least 19 people and leaving seven others missing, officials said today.

A deluge of mud, rocks and uprooted trees rolled down a mountain late on Friday, reaching a river that burst its banks and tore through mountainside villages in Pesisir Selatan district of West Sumatra province, said Doni Yusrizal, who heads the local disaster management agency.

UNITED STATES: At least three people were killed and several others injured in a shooting early today morning in Arkansas, police said.

Officers found multiple gunshot victims when they arrived at the scene in central Jonesboro, local police said in a Facebook post.

Police haven’t said what may have led to the shooting, or provided updates on those taken to the hospital.

An investigation is continuing.
