JET FUEL: Europe has “maybe six weeks or so [of] jet fuel left,” the head of the International Energy Agency (IEA) said today as he warned of possible flight cancellations “soon” if oil supplies remain blocked by the Iran war.
IEA executive director Fatih Birol painted a sobering picture of the global repercussions of what he called “the largest energy crisis we have ever faced,” stemming from the pinch-off of oil, gas and other vital supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.
GHANA: More than 300 west African nationals, including 113 children, have been rescued after an intelligence-led bust by the Ghana Immigration Service on street begging networks in the capital, Accra, the agency said yesterday.
The operation early on Wednesday targeted suspected street begging rings exploiting foreign nationals linked to human trafficking across parts of the Greater Accra region.
TURKEY: Turkish police said today that they have arrested 162 people accused of posting unacceptable content on social media about two deadly school shootings which took place this week.
Police say those arrested had been “found to have engaged in posts and activities praising crime and criminals and negatively affecting public order.”
At least 16 people were injured in a shooting at a school on Tuesday, before another nine were killed in a shooting at another school on Wednesday.
VENEZUELA: The United States today eased sanctions imposed on Venezuela’s central bank in the latest sign of improving relations between the Trump administration and the interim Venezuelan government of Delcy Rodriguez.
It means Venezuela will be able to legally use US dollars and re-enter the global financial market.
