TURKEY: A former student opened fire at a secondary school in the south-east today, wounding at least 16 people before killing himself.
Armed with a shotgun, the teenager fired randomly at a vocational school in Siverek, before hiding inside the building. He later killed himself with the same shotgun, said Sanliurfa province Governor Hasan Sildak.
The motive for the attack was unclear.
SPAIN: The government finalised a migrant amnesty measure today, paving the way for hundreds of thousands of people living and working without authorisation in the country to apply for legal status.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez hailed the measure as “an act of justice and a necessity,” adding that people who already live and work in Spain should “do so under equal conditions” and pay taxes.
ITALY: US President Donald Trump has made “unacceptable” remarks about Pope Leo XIV, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Monday.
Mr Trump had accused the pontiff in a social media post of being “weak on crime and terrible for foreign policy.”
Ms Meloni said: “The Pope is the head of the Catholic Church and it is right and normal for him to call for peace and to condemn every form of war.”
CHINA: Vietnamese President To Lam arrived in Beijing today for meetings with President Xi Jinping at the start of a four-day state visit.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said China hopes that, through the visit, the two countries will continue to deepen their comprehensive strategic co-operative partnership and jointly promote the socialist cause in the world.
